Abstract
Background: Glyceraldehydes is an antiglycolitic agent, which has more benefit than other antiglycolitic agents. Glyceraldehydes does not interfere several parameter methods, which done with glucose, such urea, bilirubine, albumin, total protein, alkaline phosphatase, AST (Aspartate transaminae), ALT (alanine transaminase) and electrolyte. In diabetes mellitus (DM) patients require to check the level of total cholesterol, HDL (high density lipoprotein), LDL (low density lipoprotein) and triglyceride, to predict complication. In this study, we want to know whether glyceraldehydes interfere levels of total cholesterol, HDL, LDL cholesterol and triglyceride.Material and method: Patient’s whole blood was divided into 2 groups. One group was added with 10 mmol/L glyceraldehydes and one group was none. Then we took the serum and check level of total cholesterol, HDL, LDL cholesterol and triglyceride. Student t-test was used to compare the result and the bias of these methods were measured.
Results: in group with no glyceraldehydes, the mean of total cholesterol was 227.58+39.24 mg/dl, HDL 47.6+8.17 mg/dl, LDL 149.78+37.42 mg/dl, and triglyceride 218.84+127 mg/dl. In group with glyceraldehydes the mean of total cholesterol was 215.68+37.72 mg/dl, HDL 46.64+8.28 mg/dl, LDL 142.6+36.05 mg/dl, and triglyceride 214.54+133.99 mg/dl. Statistically, the total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol were differ significantly (p=0.000) but not in HDL cholesterol and triglyceride level (p 0.133 and 0.476 respectively). Nevertheless, the bias of total and LDL cholesterol still not exceed reference bias allowed.
Conclusion: Glyceraldehydes can used in whole blood and does not interfere the level of total cholesterol, HDL, LDL cholesterol and triglyceride.
Sedangkan kelompok II didapatkan kadar rerata (mean) kolesterol total 227,58+39,24 mg/dl; HDL 47,6+8,17 mg/dl; LDL 149,78+37,42 mg/dl; dan trigliserida 218,84+127 mg/dl.
